favsies from the 2012 oscars

and so we've reached the end of awards show season - with my favorite (and the only one i ever watch) show, the academy awards!  while i always try to watch as many of the nominated films as possible and have my favorites to win, we all tune in for the dresses - am i right?  so even though none of my favorites won (actress: michelle williams, best pic: midnight in paris) and the winners were rather predictable, fashion wise there were quite a few winners!

my two favorites from last year, once again taking the spots at the top of my list!  natalie portman and michelle williams both look stunning!  the colors are amazing, and i just love the polka dots on the red carpet!  i wish i could wear dresses like these.  unfortunately i'd look completely insane if i did, since i never have anywhere fancy to go!

octavia spencer in tadashi shoji & neil lane; gwyenth paltrow in tom ford

also amazing - the white dresses on the red carpet!  octavia spencer looks completely gorgeous!  the dress is so flattering on her, and her make-up is just right!  she picked an amazing dress to win her first oscar in!  i can't get over how cute gwyenth paltrow's cape is!  wearing a cape is a huge risk - it can go very wrong - but gwyeth pulls it off perfectly!

berenice bejo in elie saab, swarovski & chopard; viola davis in vera wang

its not easy to pull off the long-sleeve on the red carpet, but i think berenice bejo does it so beautifully!  how amazing does viola davis look in that green gown?  i almost didn't recognize her!  so gorgeous!

tina fey in carolina herrera; kristen wig in j. mendel & neil lane

its hard to go wrong with navy or beige.  both tina fey and kristen wig look gorgeous in their gowns!  definitely having some dress envy - all these women looks so fab!  did anyone watch the oscars (or just the red carpet)?  what was your favorite dress?  

favorites from the 2011 oscars

i don't really watch a lot of awards shows - actually i don't watch any awards shows, except the oscars.  mostly because i don't really pay attention to when any other awards shows are.  so if anyone was wondering why i hadn't done a awards show post before, there ya go. 

i wasn't able to watch any of the red carpet pre-show stuff as i was out hunting street art, but i did catch the entire show which was hosted by james franco and anne hathaway.  anne had 8 different outfit changes so, it seems to me that the best part of hosting the oscars means to get to wear 8 different outfits in a few hours!  totally solves the problem of not being able to decide which dress to wear - just wear them all!  my favorite hostess dresses:

haliee steinfeld in marchesa - supporting actress nominee for true grit.   such a cutie!

marisa tomei in lily et cie 1950 charles james couture - award presenter.  love that she wore vintage, and so different from all the other dresses.

michelle williams in chanel and harry winston diamonds - best actress nominee for blue valentine.  she just looks gorgeous.  her hair goes perfect with the dress!

natalie portman in rodarte and tiffany's earrings - best actress winner for black swan.  looks amazing, great color, and shes preggers! 

and that's about it.  i think i dis-liked more looks than i liked.  scarlett johansson and melissa leo tie for the worst dressed - they both just looked like they were wearing doilies!  oh and kathryn bigelow - she just looked waaaaaay too casual.  its the oscars, not dinner with your friends!  come on!
