roses, puppets & cacti

oh did i have quite a busy saturday!  started gloomy and early with the bf's graduation from csula!  so happy he has finished!  it started raining during the graduation so we went home to take pictures and all that.

after the graduation the bf had to go to band practice so my mom and i went over the the huntington in pasadena to see the john frame exhibit and walk around the beautiful gardens.

after walking through the rose garden, herb garden we made our way to the john frame exhibit, three fragments of a lost tale.  the exhibit shows the puppet like sculptures and short film john frame made using the sculptures.  it was an incredibily interesting and the sculptures were so detailed for the small size.  i was eavesdropping a bit and heard one woman say it was not quite her taste, however i found it extremely interesting.  the tiny pieces that frame creates to form the sculptures are incredible and no detail is spared, even the fingers are moveable.  i would have loved to touch the pieces and see how each one moves.  photography wasn't allowed inside the gallery so i couldn't take any pictures.

we left the gallery and the sun had finally come out!  before we left we went to check out the desert garden, which i have to say is my favorite garden.  the colors and shapes are beautiful.

three fragments of a lost tale will be at the huntington until june 27th, and i highly recommend it.  for more information on the artist check out his website here and you can watch a little making of video below:

what to wear: saturday = spa day

saturday was spent with my mom in pasadena. last year for my mom's birthday my sister and i got her a gift card to burke williams, and i thought why not go with her? i'd never had a facial before and i figured it was about time.

we got lattes and cranberry rosemary muffins from intelligentsia cafe on colorado in old town, then went to get our facials.

the beautiful and delish cran-rosemary muffin!

after facials we went to crate&barrel so i could make myself miserable over all the things i want but can not afford.

after lunch we went to burkards nursery and i got some thyme, oregano, parsley and a artichoke plant!

hanging succulents

cute little cacti

browsing the plants

gorgeous colors

leafy greens (& purples)

not edible, but still pretty

the goods. no more wasting money on fresh herbs that go bad after a few days!

and of course, here is what i wore (post-spa):

rag&bone shirt, splendid tank, jbrand shorts, free people socks, jeffrey campbell shoes, jw hulme bag, ray-ban sunnies

jumping stones and crossing streams

my new years resolution was to exercise more and eat better. so far i've been very good! i went to eaton canyon saturday to hike to the waterfall with the doggies, the boyfriend, anjelica & her mom cardie. we didn't quite make it to the falls, but that's only because it was too crowded, but we could see it. the weather was so nice, perfect for a hike. not too hot, not to cold.

walking along the river bed, which we eventually had to cross. multiple times.

the first mini waterfall

carlos is afraid of the water

post-hike, anjelica and i went to lunch at the delish and cute auntie em's and i had the acs (avocado, cucumber, sprouts) sandwich and a mint ice tea. yummy.

off topic - i really need to work on getting someone to take photos of me. how do all these bloggers get their boyfriends to take their picture all the time??? tell me the secret!

in the market for fleas

i guess since its been around for awhile, its not exactly a "new fab find," however it was new for me. this past sunday i decided to check out the pcc (pasadena city college) flea market. i think its my fav flea market. while they had less clothing than the rose bowl flea market, i liked more for the following reasons:

1. its free to get it!
2. most of the booths are in an actual parking structure which means shade when it hot and cover if its raining.
3. small flea market so i didn't feel overwhelmed with so may booths to look at.

how amazing and mad men-esque would my house be with this stuff?!?!  wish the bf liked that style.

looovvveeeee these bugs!  next time im bringing enough cash to get some!

beads, beads, beads!  picked up some stuff for my new project that im starting.  will unveil the product/name in the next few months.

i had made a rather long list of items to look for at the flea market, but only came home with some strands of beads (for a currently untitled project i am going to start), some brass looking candle holders which i plan on spray painting, and a woven basket that im using in my kitchen. i found some amazing furniture that i wish i could afford and some really beautiful pinned butterflies, which i would have bought except i was trying to not spend too much so i passed this time.

anyway, the pcc flea market is on the first sunday of every month, and i highly recommend for everyone to go!
