winner, winner! (j.w. hulme custom legacy bag)

a while ago i made this post asking you all to vote for me in the j.w. hulme create your own legacy contest on facebook - to win a custom mini legacy - and guess what! i won! i was so excited that i actually won something! i don't think i've won anything since i was in the 3rd grade when i won a raffle for a cake we made in the class! shortly after i found out that i won, j.w. hulme sent me a little package of swatches so i could choose the leather, lining and hardware color.

after selecting the swatches i wanted - red leather, plaid lining & gold hardware - i sent back the swatches.  a few months later i received bigger package in the mail, j.w. hulme had upgraded the prize from the mini legacy to the full size legacy!  amazing!

the bag is gorgeous, as i had expected!  the quality of j.w. hulme products is amazing!  i've always been a big fan of american heritage brands, so of course j.w. hulme is at the top of my list!  i also wanted to say thank you to all the people who voted for me!  winning and having the support of so many people is just as good a prize as the actual bag!

let the sun shine

i've been wearing the same sunglasses for awhile now, you know which ones (if you've been following the blog). i love my ray-bans, but i've been itching for a new pair of sunnies, only i'm having the hardest time deciding!  i'm kinda obsessed with sunglasses and i've got quite the collection (from all my years of lifeguarding) so i want to add something to my collection that doesn't look similar to anything i already have.  here are a few of my favorites right now:

what are your favorites?  do you guys buy sunglasses without trying them on??

working arm party

we were shooting video for the ella moss site today (new thing we are doing - pretty fantastic), which is a slooooooow process. while our model was getting a hair & make-up touch up the photographer, alex snapped some quick shots of my bracelets (or "arm party" as the man repeller would say).

DIY friendship bracelet, vintage coral cuff, rotary watch, tiffany & co bangle, stratus silver jewelry co branch bangles

thanks alex, you really make the rest of the photos on my blog look like crap (just kidding mom).  you can check out some of his work here.

better late than never

okay not really a new find.  i actually discovered better late than never back in december while searching etsy for things the bf could buy me for christmas.  i came across the diamond studs and knew i had to have them.  luckily the bf got them for me!

of course i love my earrings so much i had to check out some of the other pieces from bltn.  the pieces are very organic and earthy, and a bit modern.  the prices are really good too.  one of my favorite parts of buying my jewelry from independent designers is that you aren't paying for the name, so you can get really amazing pieces without going broke.

the jewelry is designed by sara dudzinsky and can be purchased from the bltn website or from a few brick and mortar shops in the states.   happy shopping readers!

scenes from THREAD show

this past sunday was another busy day for me and i ended it at the thread show at the cooper design space in dtla.  my usual shopping partner anjelica went with me and we had a a lot of fun shopping all the jewelry!  the biggest exhibitors seemed to be jewelry and accessory designers, which is great for me because i love buying my jewelry from small, independent, local designers!

i love these little terrariums by bumblebees!  although they could use some oilcloth on the table!

cotton candy dress, zara sweater, gap denim jacket, jeffrey campbell boots

so tired after a loooong/busy day/weekend

i didn't take as many pictures as i would have liked, i was too busy shopping around!  my favorite booth was the betsy & iya booth, the jewelry is beautiful and totally my style.  i tried on a few different necklaces but ended up deciding on a pair of the stacked dakota drip earrings (below).

i really did enjoy the thread show and will definitely be attending the next one.  i found some great new jewelry lines to follow although next time i will be sure to get there earlier!  we didn't get over to the show till around 1ish, so the wait for the manicure was about 4 hours long.  if you didn't get a chance to make it to thread show this time around, do not fret!  the show is returning to the cooper design space this coming november!

computer cases get cute

about 2 years ago some of the keys on my old sony viao laptop stopped working, so i just kinda gave up on the computer.  it was soooooo slow, and anyway the bf has 2 apple desktops and a laptop so i wasn't exactly computer-less, but it was about time i get my own computer... somehow i ended up with a macbook pro.  now that i have this new fancy computer i need to get some kind of case to protect it, hence the search for the cutest computer case i can find begins.

alexander mcqueen skull print laptop case, $395 net-a-porter,  diane von furstenburg mariela printed laptop case, $135 net-a-porter
marc by marc jacobs printed laptop case, $80 net-a-porter, rebecca minkoff virginia computer case, $255 shopbop.

j.w. hulme co slim portfolio briefcase, $450 j.w. hulme, want l.e.v. kansai 13" computer portfolio, $475 la garconne, tory burch audra leather laptop case, $250 nordstrom.
tory burch tierney matte nylon laptop case, $100 bloomingdales, tumi for opening ceremony 26125 t-pass soft laptop case,
$175 opening ceremony, marc by marc jacobs pretty nylon computer commuter, $88 nordstrom.
my first choice is the j.w. hulme, but its a little expensive (okay, a lot) for a computer case.  especially since i won't be taking it that many places.  i most likely will end up getting the marc by marc jacobs printed laptop sleeve.  its a good price, cute, and i will be able to throw it in to any bag im taking with me.

fab finds at the gilt city warehouse sale

i went to the gilt city warehouse sale this past saturday, and while it was pretty overwhelming i did find some stuff i liked. and it was CHEAP!

i picked up a bracelet and a pair of earrings, both by dannijo (who i previous talked shit about, but at least my bracelet & earrings required some kind of creative design... i think).

only $10 for each item, so it was def. a steal! i didn't really see any shoes or apparel that i liked and i was a little disappointed with the home selection. the kids stuff was pretty cute though, i was sooo close to buying this little rag & bone chunky cardigan only i dont have a baby and all the babies/kids i know are too little or too big. anyway, def. a successful outing.

diy: dannijo necklace

i have found another jewelry line that is selling overpriced flea market necklaces without changing anything at all, so naturally i decided to re-create the necklace.

dannijo's zula trade necklace consists of three strands of glass beads strung on raffia ribbon, and the ends are knotted together to create the necklace. this is how the beads are sold from the beginning, which means that dannijo isn't doing anything - oh wait, sorry each set of three strands are handpicked by the designers. their time must be extremely valuable, because they are selling these necklaces for $595. yes, $595 for some strands of beads that were purchsed, and then put into sets of three. that's it. how much did i spend on four strands? $32 ($8/strand).

how is this even legal? how can someone get away with it? the necklace is gorgeous, but really you would have to be completely stupid to pay that much. i guess dannijo is marketing the necklaces as something historical and rare (read the description) but they are def. not rare. there are tons of them, and there are even two booths at the flea market that are selling the beads. compare the necklaces that my friend anjelica & i put together with the dannijo strands you would get if you paid $595:

my selection. i need more!

anjelica's selection. so much better than spending $600!

dannijo's 3 strands that were hand selected... not impressed

personally, i think that anjelica's necklace is 100 times better than the dannijo, and way cheaper. the guy who we bought the beads from gave me his card, and it turns out he has a store in hollywood. looks like i won't have to wait a month for the next flea market to buy beads!
