the monterey, san antonio

the plan for friday night dinner was to go the monterey, a hip little restaurant located in the king william neighborhood of san antonio.   it also happened to be "first friday" so we started the night by checking out some art:

after the gallery we headed to dinner at the monterey.  there was short wait for a table, but the weather was nice so we grabbed a drink and sat outside to wait for the table.

we were seated about 20 minutes later on the outside patio at an oilcloth covered table!  all the tables were covered in oilcloth, as well as the walls and ceiling of the small interior!  the plates on the menu are small which is great cause you can order a bunch for the table and try a little bit of everything.  anjelica and i ordered 3 dishes to share.

greens with mustard vinaigrette & parmigiano reggiano
radishes with sea salt & ranch butter
roasted corn with lime yogurt, chili & cheese
the food was delish - i especially liked the radish dish, and think i will attempt to re-create it at home.  highly recommend the monterey, it has great atmosphere, good food, and it also reminds me of a place i'd go to in so cal.  plus, anywhere with that much oilcloth has to be awesome!

wine and art and flowers

my first full day in texas i woke up to cool weather and gloomy skies, but it didn't last long.  we started the day off at the anarte gallery to check out the current exhibit, GINORMOUS by franco mondini-ruzi

after a glass of wine, browsing the artwork, purchasing a original print and chatting with all the ladies, we were starving for lunch.  carolyn took us too la gloria at the pearl brewery.  i had grilled fish tacos which were delish.  if you happen to be dining at la gloria i definitely would recommend the grilled fish tacos (pescado zarandeado on the menu).  the location was perfect too, the restaurant was next to the river walk and the sun had come out and it was warm.  just right for eating outside.

once we had eaten it was time to run errands for the birthday party - flowers and groceries - which was a lot of fun actually!

trying to stay healthy (didn't last after the first day), anjelica and i made stir-fry for dinner.  we didn't use a recipe, just bought some veggies and tofu, chopped it up, threw it in the wok and a few minutes later had a yummy dinner.

ingredients:
1 red pepper
1 yellow pepper
1 package sliced mushrooms
1 yellow squash
1 chayote
1 package snap peas
1/2 cup chopped green onion (picked from carolyns yard)
3 cloves garlic
1 package firm tofu
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
add garlic, sauté for 1-2 mins.  add chopped veggies, cook till the chayote & squash have reached desired softness.  top with hoisin sauce & sriracha.

finally, here is what i wore on my first day in texas:

free people jacket, gifted c&c shirt, jbrand jeans, zara scarf, jeffrey campbell boots

san antonio home style

i am back in los angeles after my trip to san antonio, tx!  not only was i visiting my one of my best friends, carolyn, but it was also my first time to texas!  we had lots planned for the 4 1/2 days that i would be visiting, including a trip to the roundtop antique fair (more on that later).  i made the trip with her twin sister - my other best friend/crafting buddy/hiking partner, anjelica

we flew in wednesday night, and i don't think i've ever been more excited for a trip!  due to an unexpected plane change and two hour delay in vegas, we didn't get in till around midnight, but that didn't stop me from awing at the amazing furniture and decorating that carolyn has in her little duplex!

of course, oilcloth grocery bags!

some artwork from her brother

snopes!
spending a few days in her amazingly decorated house makes me wanna do more decorating in my own place.  i definitely came home inspired!  i love all the little vignettes around the house, and the rugs... so amazing!
