fall/winter wish list

the weather is finally starting to cool down a bit and i'm starting to feel like i need a few changes to my wardrobe as the season is changing...

1. rag & bone the skinny - my favorite dark denim skinnies are ready to be retired, so i'm in the market for a new pair.
2.  paige verdugo legging - i need one new fashion denim piece.  these paisley print leggings are perfect, not too loud but more interesting than a solid color.
3. penfield buffalo plaid flannel shirt - can't go wrong with a buffalo plaid flannel shirt.  i would probably wear this every other day...
4. marc by marc jacobs mouse flats - i've wanted those marc by marc jacobs flats for oh so long, this might be the year i actually buy them.
5. madewell lily lace dress - nice enough to wear to holiday parties, but could also be dressed down for everyday!
6. free people oversized panda cardi - an oversized cardigan has been missing from my closet, and i've been getting tired of my oversized pullovers.  this cardi is the answer!
7. sorel tivoli boot - i love my uggs, as ugly as they are but they just aren't cutting it anymore!  with the rubber bottom and good traction these will be a perfect replacement to (old) uggs.
8.  st. james striped tee  - another classic that is (kinda) missing from my closet

this isn't the most exciting and and trend-filled wish list, but since i'm on the reduced waste/saving money kick i need to be buying things that i can wear more than one season.  what's on your fall wish list?

red white and blue

4th of july is just a week away, which means that its time to start thinking about outfits.  i'm not usually big on the whole wearing red white and blue for the holiday, but with colored denim trend right now i'm liking the idea more.  check out two looks with colored denim that are perfect for the 4th!

1. wildfox couture flag tee, 2. ray-ban new wayfarer, 3. jbrand cut-off short in bright royal, 4. woven red bracelet, 5. toms silver glitters, 6. longchamp le pilage tote in red
i will be at my mom's house in the high desert helping her set up for her 4th of july party so i definitely want a cool and comfy look for the day time.  this first look would be perfect for a day time bbq or pool party!  i love the longchamp tote in red - perfect to throw a towel, sunscreen and reusable water bottle in or as an overnight bag.  since we won't be having any fireworks out in the desert (its a major fire hazard, duhhh) i'll be wearing my favorite silver giltter toms for some sparkle!

1. ksubi super spray on narrow, 2. splendid striped cotton-silk blend tank, 3. bop bijoux star stud earrings, 4. asos leather bomber jacket, 5. madewell endless summer espadrille
once the sun sets and the weather starts to cool down it will be time to cover up a bit more.  the splendid tank is a cotton/silk blend so it will be light and comfortable and look great with the red jeans!  while i probably won't actually be putting on espadrille wedges out in the desert at my mom's, madewell's espadrille wedge is perfect shoe for a evening of watching fireworks.  and if these two looks aren't patriotic enough for you, there are plenty of american flag inspired pieces out there for you to be as patriotic as you wanna be:

1. topshop american flag socks, 2. lauren moshi flag tote, 3. runawaydreamz vintage american flag shorts, 4. lita platform boot, 5. eagle earrings, 6. usa flag bikini

does anyone have any special plans for the holiday?  or more importantly, special outfits?

melrose: a wrightwood boutique

not so long ago my little (only) sister started working at a cute little boutique in the cute little town of wrightwood, ca - home of the mt. high ski resort for anyone who skis or snowboards.  obvi this could be dangerous, because despite my self-proclaimed label whore-ness i will on occasion purchase an off brand if its cute enough.  luckily there is no discount to abuse so my wallet was relatively safe, as i usually end up spending more when i get a discount cause "its such a good deal!".

after browsing over all the stuff, i put together three looks that are perfect for the spring/summer season:

polka dot dress - cotton candy, $44

cardigan - piko 1988, $45

sweater - piko 1988, $36, shorts - da nang, $118

top - velvet heart, $110

top - cotton candy, $36.  linen pants - beulah, $69
the prices at melrose are totally reasonable, and such cute stuff.  i ended up getting the polka dot dress, i loved it so much!  also told my sister next time i'd be getting the pink top & sweater i put over it cause i love it so much.

rachel pally sample sale finds!

i'm bad blogger - i haven't posted in so long!  life has been way to busy... and not in the i have stuff to blog about busy.

anyway, i went to the rachel pally sample sale this past saturday with my little sister.  such a good selection this time around, and with such great prices it makes it was kinda hard to choose! i literally had my arms full with stuff to try on, as did my sister.  i ended up with three great pieces for spring/summer - the bandage skirt in black garden print, the long full skirt in haze & the bess bandeau in cayenne stripe.

bandage skirt in black garden print worn with a free people sweater, ray-ban sunglasses & dolce vita wedges

the usual jewelry

the long full skirt worn with a rag & bone shirt, t by alexander wang tank, free people bandeau

vintage rings, house of harlow 1960 locket

the bess bandeau worn with a t by alexander wang tank, jbrand shorts, toms wedges

carlos had to make a cameo

rachel was so sweet to give me the bandeau and bandage skirt as a gift!  seriously one of my favorite clients!  thanks rachel!  i'll be shooting more rachel pally pieces next week, and there are some seriously cute things.  check the site for new stuff soon!

rachel pally web store launches!

a few weeks ago one of my favorite LA designers, rachel pally, launched her online store!  finally one place to find all your rachel pally.  i'm also excited cause not only is there finally a place to find all the styles, but rachel pally just happens to be the newest client at my job!  seriously, i haven't been so excited about a new client before!

the launch shoots went really well, and it was so much fun getting to work with rachel.  she is pretty awesome!

of course there are so many things i want, but the emmyloo dress was my favorite and totally calling my name from day 1.  when i first saw the dress so many different outfits popped into my head, so naturally i bought the dress.  check out two ways to wear the dress, first a great casual weekend look for running errands or hanging out at a friends house.

the emmyloo dress worn with a free city hoodie, free people bandeau, birkenstocks, ray-ban sunglasses

tiffany & co necklace, vintage/handmade bracelets & rings, rotary watch

second look is more accessorized and put together - something i'll probably wear to work or to dinner or a museum.  or as my mom said, "when you want to look like a cowgirl."

the emmyloo dress worn with a gap denim jacket and frye boots

belt & beaded bracelet from my grandma's closet

can anyone guess what my tattoo means?  probably not.

when you order online your order comes with a rachel pally canvas bag, which i love cause really you can never have too many canvas bags.  i mean, what else are you supposed to put your groceries in?

check the site often as new items are being added!  happy shopping!

lifestyle revamp

in an effort to get more lifestyle work at work, last week we scheduled a lifestyle shoot to be used on the company website.  currently the photograpy page is pretty boring - and we are NOT a boring department!  we have plenty of people with great ideas just waiting to be put into action, but as of now no one is using these great ideas.  soooo we had to take matters into our own hands.  we did a lifestyle shoot focusing on nicole miller, 7 for all mankind and rag & bone.  first some behind the scenes shots...

i'm wearing a free people sweater, paige premium denim jeggings, & frye boots
everything turned out really great, and i think the 7 for all mankind ended up being my favorite which is weird cause i started out not really feeling the concept or looks.  it was so nice to 1. keep a model's face in the shots and 2. do something other than jeans.  i am getting so bored of jeans!  hopefully our clients will take the bait and we can do more lifestyle shoots in the future!  finalized shots coming shortly!

trend watch: fall 2010

i've been work as a stylist in the photography studio at an e-commerce company for almost 3 years now, and while it has been a learning experience i haven't really been able to do that much of my own styling. we are basically just following notes and guidelines from each of our clients, which means not a lot of creativity on my part, and lately many clients have been hiring outside stylists so we decided to have a little shoot to show what we can do, and i was focusing on the trends for fall 2010 (and i was def pretending to be grace coddington).

i put 6 looks together, covering a variety of looks and styles:

vintage rabbit fur collar jacket, c&c california dolman top, , jbrand jeans, rock&republic shoes, nicole miller belt, madewell bracelet (no longer available, but they have some other great options!).

paige premium denim jacket, nicole miller dress, nicole miller necklace, rock&republic shoes
ella moss top, jbrand jeans, 7 for all mankind shoes (no longer available, but these would also look great), oliver peoples glasses (no longer available), kooba cuff, hobo international bag
RVCA top, ella moss skirt, 7 for all mankind shoes, forever 21 socks, nicole miller glasses, TKO watch

splendid jacket, ella moss top, ella moss leggings, london fog boots, kooba bag, rotary watch

splendid sweater, RVCA shirt, 7 for all mankind jeans, rag & bone scarf, hobo international belt, kooba cuff, kooba bag, vera wang lavender label flats

i tried to put together looks that were not only my style, and i think i achieved it pretty well. i wouldn't actually wear every look but i do know someone who would wear each look. the shoot was so fun, and i really hope that i can do more things like this in the future. it was also really nice having access to so much product, as most of the items i used were from our warehouse, so i didn't have to go out and purchase anything extra!
