quite a few of my childhood memories revolve around outfits - the pink and green floral dress and matching bolero jacket that i begged my mom to buy me (and then wore on my first day of kindergarten!), the red & white dress with the apples on it that i wore all time with my red mary-janes, and of course the hand-knit sweaters that my mom made me. my favorite sweater was always the cat sweater - from a 1986 issue of vogue knitting. unfortunately my favorite childhood sweater got machine washed and dried (the horror!!) and shrunk down to something that would fit an american girl doll.
a few years back i got it in my head that i had to have that cat sweater again. my mom and i scoured the web and ebay until we found it - someone had saved that old vogue knitting and put it up on ebay! so my mom knit me another cat sweater, and i could be a little kid again!

hand knit cat sweater (pattern via vogue knitting 1986), madewell blouse & skirt (similar), sam edelman pumps, jw hulme purse, ray-bay sunglasses
and just for fun - here is a picture of me (4 years old!) wearing that original cat sweater (with a denim skirt too!):
i suppose if the cat on the sweater had a name, it'd be silver. that was the name of the (fat) grey cat i had as a kid. now, if i could just squeeze myself into that floral dress & bolero jacket i'd be a happy girl!
