art in the streets @ the geffen contempoary at moca

thursday was my mom's birthday, and she wanted to go to the art in the streets exhibition at the geffen contemporary at moca, which was fine with me cause i'd heard really great things about it & wanted to go.

gap denim jacket, ella moss crochet tank, lululemon leggins, zara scarf, pendleton bag, tory burch flats, ray-ban glasses

the geffen contempoary is free on thursday from 5-8pm.  we got to dtla around 515, however with all the traffic and searching for parking we didn't make it into the museum till around 6.  parking across the street from the musem was $6.50, not too bad however no one had cash and the lot looked filled already.  we drove a few blocks away and found free street parking!  it was a short walk to the museum, but i would definitely recommend parking away from the museum & walking - waaaaay less traffic which means way less stress.  unless you are one of those people that likes traffic (yeah right).

the amount of art in the museum is insane!  i've never been to such a big exhibition before.  seriously, the ENTIRE museum was taken over by street artists!  unfortunately it was really crowded, i think because it was free entry to the museum, but there was just so much to see so we could move to less crowded areas.  i definitely want to go back to the exhibit to see some of the things i missed, there was just so much you couldn't see it all in 2 hours.

art in the streets will be at the geffen contemporary at moca until august 8th, 2011.  check out the video below & for more information and videos on the exhibition check out moca's blog, the curve.

sunday street art hunt

in case anyone hadn't noticed - banksy was in LA, presumably for the oscars (though exit through the gift shop didn't win... did banksy even attend??) and his art was popping up all over walls & billboards in LA.  most of the pieces were taken down or defaced just as fast they were popping up - however one smart guy decided to put up some plexi over the crayon house foreclosure, which was good to preserve the piece, but bad for my photos.

luckily my mom and sister didn't get snowed in so they drove out to LA and we set out on a mission to see some banksy and get some breakfast.  red & blue velvet pancakes from larchmont bungalow actually.

sooo delish.  we all shared, i don't think i could eat the whole plate myself.  seriously - just go for the pancakes, if nothing else.  it was ridiculously crowded though, i guess due to all the groupons that they had sold.  finally, after our loooooong breakfast it was off to see a banksy.

there were a few other people there checking out the crayon house foreclosure, and one dude told us about a second "new" banksy in dtla.

free people jacket, sweater, bandeau, & socks, JC boots, paige jeggings

turns out the girl on a the swing is about a year old.  funny, cause the dude was totally trying to sound like he knew about this new secret banksy that no one else had discovered.  all i did was a little googling and i found out how old it is.  hey dude, you're not that cool!

crayon house foreclosure can be found at e. washington blvd & compton ave (right near the jbrand outlet - which was having a sale!  hello new jeans!).  the girl on a swing ("the park"???)  can be found on broadway & 9th st. in dtla.  we had to pull into the pay lot to get a look at it though.

for more banksy in LA check out the melrose & fairfax blog, which is where i found the location of the crayon house foreclosure.  not only do they have banksy, but all other street artists in LA!
